JOB SUMMARY
The Clinical and Staff Educator is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of comprehensive orientation and ongoing education programs for both clinical and non-clinical staff. This role ensures that all educational initiatives are aligned with regulatory, accreditation, and compliance standards, and fosters a culture of continuous learning and improvement throughout the organization. The Educator works in close partnership with Human Resources and department leaders to coordinate onboarding and orientation activities and reports directly to the Chief Quality Officer. Additionally, the Educator serves as a resource, mentor, and leader for nursing staff, supporting clinical practice, professional development, and quality care delivery.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Orientation & Onboarding
- Design and implement a structured, hospital-wide orientation program for new hires, including clinical and non-clinical staff.
- Partner with HR to coordinate orientation logistics, schedules, and documentation requirements.
- Customize orientation tracks to meet departmental and role-specific needs.
- Education Program Development
- Develop, update, and maintain educational materials, including manuals, e-learning modules, and policies for staff training.
- Create and manage an annual education calendar to support ongoing training needs and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all educational content is current, evidence-based, and aligned with state, federal, and accreditation standards.
- Competency & Compliance
- Facilitate skills labs, annual check-offs, and competency validations for clinical staff.
- Track and document compliance with mandatory training, licensure requirements, and continuing education.
- Collaborate with department heads to assess staff learning needs and support performance improvement initiatives.
- Regulatory Readiness
- Ensure all education initiatives support compliance with NIAHO, EMTALA, HIPAA, infection control, life safety, and other applicable regulatory standards.
- Assist with survey preparation and readiness, maintaining training documentation for accreditation visits.
- Nursing Staff Support & Leadership
- Act as an accessible clinical resource and educational leader for nursing staff across all shifts.
- Provide guidance on clinical practice standards, assist with troubleshooting clinical or documentation issues, and mentor staff in achieving professional growth.
- Support nursing leadership in promoting a positive work environment and high standards of patient care.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as a liaison between Quality, HR, and departmental leadership to ensure seamless communication and implementation of training programs.
- Provide guidance and support to staff in using hospital systems and resources, such as EMRs, reporting tools, and communication platforms.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Licensure/Certification
- Current RN license in the state of Georgia required.
Work Experience
- Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a critical access hospital or rural hospital setting. Previous experience in staff education, orientation, or training coordination highly preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong presentation and instructional design skills
- Knowledge of regulatory standards applicable to rural/critical access hospitals
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Working Conditions:
- Primarily day shift, with occasional flexibility required for multi-shift education delivery.
- Some walking, standing, and lifting during skills training sessions.
- Onsite role with cross-departmental responsibilities.
