JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Jenkins County Medical Center’s policies and procedures, the Respiratory Department Manager will provide direct oversight of all respiratory therapy operations. This includes staff scheduling, patient care delivery, equipment management, and departmental compliance with regulatory standards. The Manager will lead initiatives to enhance respiratory service line performance, ensure high-quality patient outcomes, and maintain a culture of safety and excellence. This role requires close collaboration with the Emergency Room, Med-Surg, Behavioral Health Unit, and other departments to support integrated patient care.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee daily operations of the Respiratory Department, including staff supervision, patient care delivery, equipment maintenance, and documentation.
  • Develop and implement respiratory care protocols and procedures in alignment with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with state and federal regulations, including HIPAA, CMS, and other accrediting bodies.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Nursing Officer and other department managers to address patient care needs, coordinate interdisciplinary workflows, and promote a culture of collaboration.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of respiratory therapists, including onboarding, training, and conducting annual performance evaluations.
  • Monitor respiratory therapy metrics, including therapy utilization, treatment accuracy, and patient outcomes, and report performance indicators to hospital leadership.
  • Manage departmental budget, supply ordering, and capital equipment needs to ensure cost-effective operations.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of all services rendered and ensure proper coding and billing processes are followed.
  • Facilitate ongoing staff education and competency evaluations, ensuring staff are certified and compliant with continuing education requirements.
  • Serve as the department’s primary contact during inspections, audits, and emergency events; participate in safety drills and hospital preparedness planning.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and hospital committees to enhance respiratory care services and interdisciplinary integration.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Level of Education:

  • Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Licensure, Certification, Registration:
    • Licensed Respiratory Therapist (CRT/RRT) in the State of Georgia
    • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (or obtained within 6 months of hire)

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in respiratory therapy, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role preferred.
  • Strong understanding of clinical respiratory procedures, diagnostic testing, and equipment management.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records, regulatory standards, and performance improvement processes
