Behavioral Health at Jenkins County Medical Center
Our inpatient geriatric psychiatry program provides compassionate care for older adults experiencing mental, emotional, or behavioral challenges. We offer a comfortable, structured environment where patients receive the treatment and support they need.
What Is Geriatric Psychiatry?
Geriatric psychiatry focuses on the mental health needs of older adults. Our program is designed by experienced professionals to address the emotional and behavioral complexities of aging, helping patients improve their well-being and quality of life.
Our team includes a dual board-certified psychiatrist and a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, supported by on-site medical staff. Together, they provide in-person and tele-psych evaluations to develop personalized care plans for each patient.
What Conditions Can We Help With?
We treat a wide range of behavioral and mental health conditions, including:
- Alzheimer’s-related behavioral changes
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Bipolar disorder
- Schizophrenia
- Cognitive decline
- Mood disorders
- Paranoia and hallucinations
- Delusions and phobias
- Psychosis
- Suicidal or homicidal thoughts
What Can Be Expected During Treatment?
Each patient receives an individualized treatment plan tailored to their specific needs. Care may include therapy, medication management, and structured daily activities.
Group therapy and socialization activities help improve mood, memory, and cognitive function. Family participation is encouraged through educational sessions that help caregivers understand and support their loved one’s recovery.
What Are the Next Steps After the Program?
Before discharge, each patient receives a post-treatment plan to ensure continued success. Our providers coordinate follow-up care with primary physicians or outpatient behavioral health clinics to support long-term stability and well-being.
